This week, the area surrounding the construction site was hydrograssed. Since erosion is a huge problem in Florida, using hydrograss is a method used to ensure growth. This methods assists seeds in the growing process, by using a combination of seeds, water, and binding agent, to secure seeds in the soil, ensuring plants take roots and thrive.
In our own lives, the seeds of spiritual growth often find themselves fallen upon dry grounds or even snatched up by the birds (See the Parable of the sower for more).
Even in our own lives, we need a system to maintain our own spiritual growth:
1. Water-When Jesus met the woman at the well, she was spiritually and emotionally barren. He offered her one of the most precious gifts, himself.
"Jesus answered, 'Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life'" (john 4: 13-14, NIV).
2. Food-Jesus came so that all who believe in him will be saved. The disciples wanted Jesus to feed their earthly hunger, but Jesus offered them (and us) something of greater significance.
"Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty'" (John 6:35, NIV).
3. Binding Agent- We can always trust our sovereign Lord to keep us together when we'd otherwise fall apart.
"He is before all things, and in him all things hold together" (Colossians 1:17).
We will never see the harvest of goodness, faithfulness, and all the fullness of the fruits of the spirit take root in our lives without the spiritual nourishment that is found in Jesus Christ, our Lord.
This summer, while you are feeding your mind and body with fun in the sun, take time to feed your family's spiritual wellness as well.
