Frequently asked questions
For many years discussions about opening an elementary school were heard in the meeting rooms at Parkway Christian Church. There was certainly a need for an additional Christian elementary school in Western Broward County.
Parkway’s preschool program had been very successful with nearly 200 students and had a waiting list for every class. Some of those preschool parents began asking about the possibility of Parkway Christian Church opening an elementary school.
Thanks to the vision of the pastor, the dedication of members of the congregation and parents, the dream became a reality. The church held a capital campaign, the curriculum was researched, teachers were hired, and fundraisers held. All those involved held the strong belief that God would under-gird this effort. He did.
Parkway Christian School opened in August 2001 with 21 students enrolled in the kindergarten program. The first two weeks of school, classes met in one of the church meeting rooms. Students and teachers were awaiting the completion of portable classrooms that were leased to temporarily house the new elementary school.
The second school year started with 60 students in kindergarten and 1st grade. In the fall of 2003 our enrollment grew to 110 students in kindergarten through 4th grades. We also enrolled 19 students in our pre-kindergarten 4-year-old class. Our goal was to provide a Pre-K through 5th grade Christian elementary school for the 2004/2005 school year.
Construction began in October 2002 on a two-story 35,000 square foot building that could house 300 elementary students. The building was completed and opened in September 2003. In addition to regular classrooms, the building has a library/computer room, multi-purpose room, teachers’ workroom, conference room, offices, and rooms for church use.
Due to our elementary school's success, the desire for a middle school arose. A sixth grade classroom was opened during the 2005-2006 school year with five students. Two school years later, the foundation of our middle school program began with students in grades 6th through 8th visiting different teachers for different classes, including electives. Two years later our middle school grew to over 100 students.
Currently, our school is in a phase of growth as we start raising funds to build an indoor gymnasium and eventually, a middle school building.
